Shining light on natural history for Queensland Museum

The becoming of this four-bedroom family home stands out thanks to its unique position. Backed onto a creek, Victoria Avenue posed specific design and construction challenges as the property is placed with one rear sitting on a slab supported by 7-metre pires.

Equipped with utter luxury, Victoria Avenue house consists of multiple living areas, a tennis court and a pool in the backyard. To create the illusion of being above water, the bedroom's view opens directly into the pool through the clever use of large-frame glass walls.

Victoria Avenue house boasts timber and an earthy palette featured in many areas of its build. Standing in the background, the duo work wonders in bringing warmness to the interior while accentuating the cool tones of stone and marble. The house also sees a mirroring effect created by tge reflection of hardwood flooring and acoustics slats on the ceiling. Through this effect, the general living space are perfectually elongated, encompassing a sense of aerial spaciousness. Boundless living style is also seen in the adjoined communal living and dining area, where open-space living is employed to welcome nature and light.

The lighting approach of this project consists of a combination of task, ambient, accent and wayfinding fixtures that infuse warmth and ambience into the space once the sun sets. As a crucial part of the lighting scheme, the **Titanium series** is employed throughout the project. With the Titanium Downlights delivering the necessary general illumination, the cannisters are suspended atop surfaces like the kitchen island to support task lighting needs. At the same time, accent lighting fixtures such as the **Apex Adjustable Downlight** work to focus the eye, illuminating artworks and artefacts.
