Results1The Zentrum für Internationale Lichtkunst (ZfIL) in the former Linden Brewery (Lindenbrauerei) in Unna, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, is unique in character. Established in 2001, ZfIL is the only museum worldwide entirely dedicated to light art. While the museum’s 52-metre chimney with the Fibonacci Sequence by Italian Arte Povera artist Mario Merz beacons attention, deep underground in the former brewery’s cellars, there is 3000m2 dedicated to light art.
Many internationally renowned light artists have permanent installations that blend perfectly with the historical exhibition spaces. Among them James Turrell, Keith Sonnier, Rebecca Horn, François Morellet and Olafur Eliasson. Along with the permanent collection, the museum curates temporary exhibitions, which focus on recent developments within light art.
The ZfIL is the competence centre of light art in the broadest sense. The museum holds workshops and symposiums and maintains a broad network with diverse cultural institutions, including technical colleges and art schools.
