A collaboration of two Australian brands, Unios and Chris Connell, seeking to explore the concept of simplicity in lighting and Australian design. The Pandia represents our findings – an uncomplicated glass light full of nuances in its form, light, and how it belongs in a space.
A collaboration between Unios and Chris Connell

Designed with simplicity by Chris Connell

Chris Connell is an award-winning multidisciplinary designer known for his signature focus on simplicity. His work spans iconic hospitality spaces like Il Bacaro, and his renowned Pepe chair is featured in MoMA’s permanent collection. Now, he brings this vision to life with the Pandia Collection.

An expression of moonlight

Inspired by the intimately familiar experience of gazing at the full moon, the Pandia uses clear glass with honeycomb details to create a welcoming direct light. Surrounding the form, a soft glow—created by the opaque edge of the glass—echoes the full moon’s gentle halo.

A sense of quietude

When off, the Pandia leans into the tonal approach of its surroundings with the characteristically soft and quiet form. When on, it provides a welcoming, warm light rich in nuances.

Simple in form.

Versatile in function.

The duality of glass

The Pandia features cast glass with a honeycomb imprint. From afar, the glass becomes one with the light, but up close, the honeycomb structure and opaque edge reveals complexity within the light.

A purposeful light

As a forward-throw wall light, the Pandia casts a warm glow into the space, enhancing the ambience with a comforting touch. When used as a pendant, it takes on a functional role while maintaining a gentle presence.

Thoughtful proportions

Designed with a focus on balance, the Pandia’s side profile features three equal segments, creating a harmonious form, with a light source that balance direct and indirect illumination, reducing contrast between the light and its background.

A new colour palette

The Pandia revealed a new finish palette for the Unios brand. With two new colours, Slate Grey and Dusty Green, this product is designed to complement various tonal approaches to spaces.

  • Inspired by Australian flora and fauna, the new Dusty Green complements warm spaces and natural materials, such as timber, blending seamlessly with earthy elements.
  • The new Slate Grey finish offers a textured, muted tone that pairs beautifully with concrete surfaces and industrial aesthetics.
  • Textured White is a signature color for Unios, suited to most settings. It’s especially striking in clean gallery environments with crisp white walls.
  • Textured Black, iconic to the Unios brand, is a versatile choice that pairs beautifully with concrete surfaces and complements spaces with brickwork.

A light that belongs

Moons of Mars

Inspired by the two moons of Mars, we envision the Pandia in pairs, orbiting at the periphery, complementing its surrounding.

Inviting intimacy

Suspended low above a horizontal surface, the Pandia casts a warm glow that invites conversations and a sense of togetherness.

A family of light

Chris explains this best – “Just as our family grounds us, I believe there's a great novelty to the idea of lights having a family, too.”
